Background of the Study
The location of warehouses plays a crucial role in the overall efficiency of distribution systems, particularly for large-scale companies like BUA Group, which operates in the cement, sugar, and other manufacturing sectors. BUA Group, a leading conglomerate in Nigeria, relies on a network of warehouses to store raw materials and finished products for distribution across the country. In Benue State, where BUA Group has several operational units, the strategic positioning of warehouses directly affects the company’s ability to meet customer demands, reduce transportation costs, and ensure timely delivery (Aliyu & Rauf, 2023).
Warehouse location strategies focus on balancing key factors such as proximity to suppliers, customers, and transportation hubs, while minimizing operational costs. Effective warehouse location decisions can lead to reduced lead times, lower transportation costs, and higher customer satisfaction. For BUA Group, the correct warehouse location strategy is crucial in ensuring that products reach their destinations quickly and cost-effectively. In Benue State, which has a relatively favorable geographic position in central Nigeria, there are opportunities to optimize the warehouse network to improve distribution effectiveness and reduce logistics costs (Ojo & Olanrewaju, 2024).
This study aims to evaluate the role of warehouse location strategies in enhancing distribution effectiveness at BUA Group in Benue State, focusing on the impact of strategic warehouse placement on operational efficiency and cost reduction.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of warehouse location in optimizing distribution efficiency, there is limited research on how BUA Group’s warehouse location strategy in Benue State influences its distribution performance. The problem lies in understanding how warehouse location decisions impact BUA Group’s ability to meet demand, control transportation costs, and ensure efficient delivery to customers. The effectiveness of the existing warehouse location strategy at BUA Group needs to be critically evaluated to identify potential areas for improvement.
